Steve Taylor Hat Bands

A local gallery owner once said Steve Taylor was the finest silversmith working in Santa Fe. His process is unique, or probably so. A 12 foot table with clamps at each end holds a length of sterling silver wire which is winched until it is perfectly straight. The wire is cut into lengths and soldered side by side like fence posts until it is a block.

The block is then cut at angles and rearranged to create a new block forming geometric patterns and is so precise that it can be calibrated to a thousandth of an inch. A single buckle can take as much as 3 days to make.

Occasionally set with coral, turquoise or black jade, Steve Taylor’s silver work is immediately recognizable for it’s incomparable integrity and beauty by discerning collectors from coast to coast.

We are fortunate to include Steve Taylor’s acclaimed work among our selection of handmade, fine silver hatbands.
