The Gambler Hatbands
Contemporary Hispanic silversmith, The Gambler is known for his creative interpretations of traditional motifs of skulls, crosses, sacred hearts and iconic southwest imagery. Almost entirely self-taught, he draws on the teachings of some of the finest area artists and builds his pieces in the heaviest gauge materials possible for wearable weight and comfort. Working primarily in sterling silver, his hatbands are studded with “conchos” which are sometimes inset with precious and semi-precious stones using opals, turquoise, garnets, rubies, sapphires and peridot. The recipient of numerous awards, his work is shown in fine galleries and museums throughout the country.
